Plastic

We accept the following for recycling:

• Water and soft drinks bottles
• Clean plastic bags

We do NOT accept the following for recycling in the plastic bottle banks:

• Food trays or containers
• Clingfilm
• Household cleaner/detergent bottles - these are hazardous and must be put in the containers located in the "Household Hazardous Waste" section of the centre
• Plastic baths
• Plastic toys
• Plastic garden furniture

Please wash, squash and remove lids.

By squashing the bottles you can save storage space at home therefore saving trips to the centre. This also saves energy and protects the environment. The lids should be disposed of with your residual waste at home. To check whether a plastic item can be recycled look for a recycling code on the product.

Here are examples of products which can be manufactured from PET and HDPE, two particular types of recyclable plastic.

		This plastic can be turned into synthetic fibres and used to make items such as fleece jumpers
		This plastic can be recycled into items such as toys and garden furniture
Some interesting facts about recycling plastics: Plastic bottles make up 10% of the contents of your household bin Approximately 60% of the total plastic waste is packaging, which typically has a 'life' of less than 12 months
